Lesson 7: Online Platforms as Tools for ICT Content and Development

I able to know here in this lesson the nature and purposes of online platforms and applications in our daily internet lives.
Platforms from my opinion is any hardware or software used to host an application which means the developers have expressly developed the application program to run on one platform.
   Online Platform is a platform that uses internet.

Examples of Online Platforms
1. Social Media
       - websites and applications that enable users to create and share contrmt or to participate in social networking.
    Examples:
          • Twitter
          • Facebook
          • Tumblr
2. Blogging
         - is the act of writing in a blog a basically journal that is available on the web.
     Examples:
          • WordPress
          • Tumbler
          • Blogger
3. Presentation/ Visualizations
          - to communicate information clearly and efficiently via statistical graphics
      Examples:
           • Prezi
           • Zoho
           • Slideshare
           • Mindmeister
4. Cloud Computing
          - the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to manage rather than a local server or a personal computer and it is a shared pools of configurable computer system resources.
      Examples:
           • Google Drive
           • Dropbox
5. Web Page Creation
           - encompasses a number of important elements
       Examples:
            • Wix
            • Weebly
6. Files Management
           - storing, naming, sorting and handling computer files.
       Examples:
            • Zamzar
            • word2pdf
7. Mapping
           - transformation taking the points of one space into the points of the same or another space.
       Examples:
            • Google Maps
            • ikimapia

Basic Web Design Principles and Elements 

Before you begin:
1. Consider the audience and goals
2. It is advisable to plan the site on paper first
Site Lay-Outing
1. Strive for Consistency
2. Provide a rich set of links within the site
3. Don't hide important information

The Web Medium:
1. Provide opportunities for interaction
2. Avoid text only pages
3. Don't sacrifice elegance
4. Provide a link for every URL used in tne site

The Front Door:
1. Give a description title of the site
2. Include a brief introduction
3. Make the sites homepage as useful a starting point as possible

Accessibility:
1. Make sure the text is used legible
2. Make sure the site is platform independent
3. Consider the needs of the viewers

The End Game:
1. Thoroughly test the site
2. Carefully proofread
